The Light

The title of this post has absolutely nothing to do with the post but that's the name of the song I'm listening to right now hehe (by Common if you're wondering) anywho today it was beautiful out, the snow is finally melting, so I decided to go out and enjoy it! I was rushed as usual b/c my friends have a habit of making last minute plans but my outfit actually came out pretty good and I managed to snap a few pictures before I left. I've finally started to put down my A.Wang Coco Duffel (favoriteee bag) and started to revisit my vintage gucci shoulder bag. Maybe because it's lighter (in weight) and I love the simplicity of it. Today was cool, besides me almost falling on the un-salted sidewalks of downtown Richmond! smh. Luckily I found a shoe store and bought those things you put at the bottom of your shoe so you won't slide. I shopped a little, ate some great italian food, and laughed w/ my girls. Well I'm gone to go lay down and continue being my usual lazy self!

P.S: I'm also revisiting my vintage booties w/ the wooden heel (barely pictured above) See the problem is there a little too big but my mom suggested adding a sole to them and now they fit perfectly and are more comfortable woohoo!

Only By The Night

I wanna start off by saying this album changed my life(haha dramatic I know). Kings of Leon is definitely spewing from the speakers of my laptop, the car radio, or my headphones, for hours in a day. I had no idea who the band was until earlier this year and when I listen to their music I can't help but scream at the top of my lungs and sing along to every word. If you haven't picked up this album your missing something in life (it won iTunes album of the year if that means anything lol). If your skeptical I advise you to listen to some of my favorite tracks, "Sex is on Fire", "Manhattan", "I want You" & "17" epiiiiiiic!

Inked

If I had to describe today's events in one word I would have to say hectic! Last night I got the urge to finally go through with getting a tattoo and in all honesty when I stared at the screen of what I wanted to get I didn't think I'd actually do it. I wasn't really all that scared to get a tattoo but the idea of having to sit still while someone drew something you would have to live with the rest of your life was a little intimidating to me. Long story short after a failed attempt to find some pieces from the Rodarte x Target collection in VA I decided to just do it. It took Ash (my tattoo artist) a mere 15mins and it wasn't even that painful! I know by now you're wondering wtf is it & what does it say, well it says "Independence" in arabic and I got that because I feel like in life the feeling of being completely independent and free to do whatever your hearts desire, is something people don't cherish as much as they should. I love it & I'm ready to get another hehe <3

P.S: it looks all greasy because I have to keep it moist for the next 3 days I'll take a better picture once its completely healed :)

Imprisoned by Love

This picture serves no real purpose to anything in particular but as I was on the aforementioned blog Boys Life it was attached to one of the post, in it is random advice given by J. Masois about relationships and what boys want, like/dislike, etc but the one that stood out to me and made me cry out in laughter was the question circled in bright red.

Last week my brother took a mini-vacation to NY and took my Flip Video Camera along. When he got back he had hilarious videos of his antics while in the city but this one is classic! Saturday Night

So Saturday night the girls and I headed to a party in downtown Richmond, trucking it through the snow, and making sure to drive as carefully as possible. Like I said before my outfit wasn't as warm as it needed to be but I was ok from my house to the car, from the car to the party, and back. The loft it was held in was beautiful and it was packed from wall to wall (nice!) Mostly a college crowd and smelled like weed sweat and alcohol (typical) lol. I'm not the biggest fan of the party scene and that might stem from my extreme laziness but I decided one night out wouldn't hurt. I won't disclose all the happenings of last night in this post in the event it might get me in trouble haha but I danced w/ my girls, had a few drinks, and overall had a good time. It's really hard to find my kind've crowd at a party in VA b/c majority of parties here are filled with a dj who plays "twirk" (which means a dub in NY lingo) music by southern artists I've never heard of but on the downtown scene it's more like a NY party which suits me perfectly.

PS: I finally did a somewhat outfit post! I would like to do this more often but I rarely have someone to take pictures of me, or take pictures how I like for pictures to be taken lol. I'll try to get some snapshots more often though.

Random Post

The weather in Virginia has been..interesting to say the least lol. We've experienced an insane blizzard and I must say it couldn't have come at a worst time! My chances of getting to NYC before Monday are slim to none and it's kind've put a damper in my mood. Besides that, the snow has covered everything and left me with a very limited amount of shoes to wear =/ so in all honesty I would really like to spend my break from school snuggled up in my boyfriends bed wearing one of his shirts and watching 80's movies (cheesy ? who cares) Since thats not happening right now I'm forced to party with my girlfriends and put on something cute and not appropriate for the weather lol (I never dress warm enough in winter smh) but I've decided to turn my blah face -_- into a smile and take my lemons and make lemonade. I actually don't have much to say but I'm sitting hear focused on my laptop screen trying to convince my friends that I'm actually doing something important on my computer and not just avoiding an attempt to find something to wear. Well, just checking in..

Boys Life

yesterday while scowering the usual blogs I checked Hellz and saw a post about a blog about a guy in NYC writing about his life, what men want, and being brutally honest. I looked it over at first, didn't pay much mind to it and continued with my day. But later on in the midst of boredom I went back and clicked the link to the blog-- at first it seemed like a normal blog, plain layout, not many pictures but as I read I fell in love, this guys honesty is something refreshing and completely different from any blog I've come across especially from a male blog. I'm addicted to his posts and I advise you to check it out!

I went on a date recently with a really cool girl.  She showed up in a Jean Paul Gaultier one piece shirt and skirt combo, black stocking and the perfect heels.  The date was really nice.  We ended up fooling around but not sleeping together.  It never went anywhere and I remember her clothes the most.  I blame new york.  This is how it is here.  You either drop your small town baggage and dive the fuck in or you’re stuck out in Williamsburg, hooking up with girls just as ugly as the ones you fooled around  up with when you lived in Portland.  No fucking thanks.

I've always been a huge Robin Thicke fan, musically but lately idk what it is but he seems so sexy! On my plane ride back to VA this afternoon I caught his appearance on Alexa Chung and the man made me blush! His voice is something else and it doesn't help that majority of his music is sex related haha. On Alexa Chung she made a reference to a song on his album titled "Shakin' it for Daddy" and he smirks than says "& I'd be Daddy in the situation" haha ok Robin! His album is out tommorrow so I'll have a review up for that soon <3

V for Vendetta

so it's circulating around the web that V magazine is doing an issue solely on plus sized models for their January 2010 issue and in all honesty i think this is just a publicity issue since doing blackface and bringing in urban culture has already been overdone -_-

This is mentioned often on this site, but worth repeating: A plus-size model is not the same as a plus-sized woman. A "plus-size model" is a model who is at least 5'9" but has measurements above the requirements for "straight size" models, which are, roughly, 34-24-34. Basically, a plus size model could be a US size 8, 10 or 12, despite the fact that those sizes are not considered "plus" by clothing manufacturers, So they don't exactly represent plus-sized women.

This is an excerpt from Jezebel.com speaking on V Magazine's plus sized issue and I must agree, my words to live by "don't believe the hype" fit in perfect with this situation because a plus sized model is still not what women with curves in the real world look like.

Sade has finally made a much anticipated comeback from her last album "Lovers Rock" nearly 9 years ago! I grew up listening to her music and when i was younger I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now, thanks to my mom for introducing me to her strong sultry voice! Just Venting

I find it so weird how badly mainstream fashion wants to tap into the underground culture or as a New Yorker would call it "the downtown scene". You've got Harpers Bazaare teaming up with kaws and Vogue doing blackface on white models and it all seems so unoriginal to me. In my opinion the most original fashionable people come from the streets and aren't the models throwing up 3x a day and strutting the catwalk at fashion week. Celebrities fall in this same category as well because 99% of them have stylists so when you see Rihanna sporting something that made your jaw drop my words to you are simply "don't believe the hype", Rihanna was smart and got a great stylist, who picked out those clothes for her. For me Rihanna was most original when she sported a long weave, sequined bras, and baggie jeans -_-. Sometimes I'm head over heels in love with fashion and find myself glued to a magazine at the beautiful clothes placed perfectly on the models who tower over you in 6inch heels and other times I find myself sick of it all and rather bury my head in some AP Statistics work finding the regression  lines of scatter plots. To make it simple, I have some kind of love/hate relationship with fashion but I honestly could'nt see myself without it, certain things just annoy me about it that sadly will never change. I will say that I'm more inspired by a random person dressed extremely well walking down the street or a random blog I come across then models wearing someones designs on a runway.

Guess Whose In the Kitchen

This past weekend my mom and I had lunch at my favorite Italian restaurant Maggiano's, and I had my usual penne ala vodka w/ chicken & a shirley temple. Italian food has to be my favorite type of food to eat and I told my mom how badly I wanted to learn how to make the yummy italian dish, then while my mom did the weekly food shopping she found that they sold the vodka sauce used to make the dish right in a jar! So today I decided to try and make it and it came out really good even though it might not be Maggiano's hehe.

Thanks to Bertolli, what would've taken me a while to learn and prepare turned into a meal I can make in less than an hour :)
